This is one post in a multi-part series on prayer in action. Please set aside 10 minutes to read and pray through the guide below. Use the TASK to move forward in serving Christ.

The Lord is far from the wicked,
but he hears the prayer of the righteous – Proverbs 15:29

If I had cherished sin in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened;
but God has surely listened
and has heard my prayer.
Praise be to God,
who has not rejected my prayer
or withheld his love from me! – Psalm 66:18-20

God, thank you for paying the price for my sins on the cross. Thank you for giving me new life in You. Help me to leave sin behind. Don’t let it continue to have power in my life. Don’t let it distract me from You. I know that you desire to be close to me all the time. I also know that my choices either lead me closer to You or father away from You. Don’t let me be satisfied to have accepted your Gospel, but help me to love so much that it propels me away from all that things that don’t please you. Don’t let my sin come between us. Today, help me be honest and look to see if there are:

- habits in my life that offend You

- thoughts in my mind that don’t please You

- attitudes in my heart that are against your will

I know that You desire to be near me. Help me desperately want to be near You. Give me the strength to eliminate all the barriers in our relationship. Help me to believe that you are better than anything else that I can have in my life.

TASK: Take a moment to think back through the past week of your life. What choices, thoughts, words or attitudes do you think offended or displeased God. Consider what action steps you need to take to change the way you are living to be more in line with his will. Be honest. Be vulnerable. Be willing to believe that God is better than anything else. Often our prayer for help in running from sin will bring us close to God and empower our other prayers. He listens to those who are close to Him.
