This is one post in a multi-part series on prayer in action. Please set aside 10 minutes to read and pray through the guide below. Use the TASK to move forward in serving Christ.
You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me. – Psalm 139:1-5
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ – Matthew 7:21-23
Lord, I want You to be my Lord. I want You to be involved in every area of my life. I know that You know me. You know every thought, every desire, every mistake, every joy – all of me. I know that You see me and that You are always with me. But God, I want to be your friend. I want to know You intimately. I am not interested in a cold re-introduction on Sundays during worship services. I do not just want to pay You lip-service. I want to know You like You know me. I want to be aware of your ways. I want to be your close friend. I want to:
- walk with You through my life
- know your desires
- want to please You
- wake up every day excited to be with You
- excited to be on your team
You are my Savior and I love that. But I want You, my Savior, to be my close friend. You have taught me through your Word, but I also want You to mentor me through your Spirit. Bring me closer and closer to You.
TASK: Think about what friends do. List some activities that friends of share together. Some go out to eat, others share hobbies/common interests, and others still love to just talk. What kind of activities can you build into your life to build a closer friendship with God? Try to think of a few concrete things that you can do multiple times this week.
