prayer1

This is one post in a multi-part series on prayer in action. Please set aside 10 minutes to read and pray through the guide below. Use the TASK to move forward in serving Christ.

___

From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.

You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.

Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God. – John 6:66-69

God, following You can be hard. Life with You is different and costly. Life with You can seem unsual to those around me. Life with You means that I am not just living to please myself. Don’t let me be someone who hears your words, understands your Gospel and then turns back. I am not praying this because I want to be a “good Christian.” On the contrary, I want to stick with You because I know that I NEED You. I recognize that I can’t live without You because You have what I need… You are what I need. Help me in my everyday life to see and remember that:

- there is no real joy apart from You

- there is no meaning to life apart from You

- no other person can satisfy me life You

- if I had the whole world, but not You, I would be hopeless

There are many things in this life that are worth working for, but there is nothing as valuable as You. Help me to stick with You through everything and find joy in my relationship with You.

TASK: Take a moment to think about which way you are moving in your relationship with Christ – closer to Him or further away? We are never remaining at the same level. Think about following Jesus as if you were actually walking behind Him toward a destination. If you stop moving and keeps walking what happens? You get separated from Him. If the distance between you and Christ is growing, ask Him to catch you up, bring you close and keep you near.
